The Characters

Sonny Rivera – After graduating high school, Sonny has gone through a series of menial jobs - waiter, cashier, etc. He lives in a crappy studio apartment over his uncle's garage. He hates it but it's either that or a cardboard box behind the movie theatre. The only perk his apartment had over the box was indoor plumbing - when it worked. Once he'd left college for the second time, his parents forced him out into the world to make his way. Luckily his uncle wasn't as concerned about his education.  Despite his lack of employment, and terrible living situation, Sonny never had any problems with the opposite sex. He always had lots of girlfriends, but never a serious relationship.

Morgan  Walsh –  Most people think that Morgan is only a bookworm, science major, know-it-all, nerd.  That’s not the case, entirely.  She’s been forced by her zealous parents from a young age to excel at everything she attempts; school, ballet, art, instruments, sports, etc.  Her shortcomings appear in the form of social gatherings, friendships and, as begrudged as she is to admit it, boys. If her parents had any idea that she was dating, they’d drive her to a convent and never allow her to come back home.  Yeah, that’s what she was up against every day. She can never speak to anyone about her ex boyfriend, Brian, who died in a fire five years ago. The psychologist that her mother dragged her to when her “friend” died, said that her lack of response to the death is a sign of her being a sociopath… but Morgan thinks psychology is a load of crap anyway.  She prefers physics.

Cal Fitzpatrick –  Callum had been luckier than most of his friends. His home life was as close to idyllic as one could get. He got along quite well with his parents, despite their eccentricities. His father was an accountant and probably the blandest person alive but his mom was, in short, batshit crazy. She had been a hippie in her youth and never really moved past that but they were still head over heels in love.  It led to an unusual childhood for Cal. After school, his mother encouraged him to 'find himself' while his father quietly left college course calendars laying around. In the end, Cal decided to do both. He began taking courses at the local community college while working full time at a local diner. Slinging burgers is not exactly the job a vegetarian aspires to but it pays the bills. The highlight of Cal's day is the five minutes every morning that he gets to see Jolene. She regularly stops at the diner for her morning coffee and a flash of her beautiful smile is all it takes to put him in a good mood for the rest of the day. He's been in love with Jolene since as long as he could remember, but he knows that he's been friendzoned. They'd known each other for so many years, he knew there was no way she could see him as anything other than a friend..

Jolene Kennedy–  There is no stopping a thought, regardless of its tactlessness, from shooting out of Jolene’s mouth the moment that it pops into her head. She doesn’t believe in any type of deception, nor sugar-coating life. Jolene is known to her friends as the tightrope walker on the edge of winning and failing at life.  She’s been down the road of hard drug use, she’s nearly graduated actual college, and she has held down a job since the age of fourteen.  ‘Course, at one point she wasn’t just tending a bar at the local strip joint, but no one needed to know that little detail.  The thing that got her out of the life of stripper-by-night?  Cal.  Despite herself, Jolene has come to rely on Cal to wash away the jaded haze that frequently clouds her vision.  He was the first boy, excluding her brother, that she trusted and though she’d never admit it to anyone, her very first crush.  Jolene never chased him down because she knew he deserved better than her.

Quentin Kennedy – Most of Quentin's childhood is summed up with one word: awkward. Girls never interested him and his eyes constantly sought a handsome face.  He'd suspected from the moment a slanderous remark was made against a fellow classmate in the fourth grade; the day the definition of gay entered his life. But Quentin knew he was more than a label. He preferred to be covered in mud, kicking a soccer ball, and crawling underneath the hoods of cars and is not the stereotypical homosexual man.  Intelligent to a fault, he tends to overthink everything which is the most likely reason that no one knows where his heart truly lies. He's always had a crush on Bo Raines and it kills him every. single. day.

Bree Raines– Bree was only twelve years old when her parents were killed in a senseless car crash leaving Bree and her older brother, Bo alone in the world. Bree knows that Bo has given up a lot in order to stay with her and not let her fall into the system. It's something that she's grateful to him but she's also not the same young girl she was so long ago. Bree is has made it her mission to enjoy life to the fullest. And the hefty inheritence she recieved on her eighteenth birthday has gone a long way toward attaining that goal. She's not about to waste what precious little time she has in this world slaving away at a job she hates or taking classes when she has no desire to just because society dictates that she should. Bree is the life of the party, even when there is no party. She's the first person to laugh or smile at a situation but her temper is just as quick. She's never been a push over and she never will be.

Bo Raines – Forced from his lackadaisical life as a college student, and thrust into an everincreasing role of support for his kid sister, Bo constantly strives to achieve success and very seldomly receives gratification.  It's been eight years since his parents' death, five years since the night their cottage burned to the ground, and four years since he declared to the world that he is a gay man. As a strong-willed man, Bo refuses to let those defining moments dictate his life, but the world usually decides otherwise.
